TripIt, an online travel itinerary and trip-planning service, has recently announced a free app for 's iPhone and iPod touch. TripIt for iPhone and iPod touch displays a traveler’s detailed itinerary on the handset's screen, offering the user the ability to view their travel plans at any given time, via an intuitive interface.
The TripIt iPhone app does have its limitations; you currently can't use it with shared itineraries, and it doesn't provide alerts that other people in your TripIt network are close to you. It's likely that the developers will include these abilities in the future. For the time being it's great that you can check your itinerary anywhere using your iPhone or iPod Touch; the ability to check where you're supposed to be at any point during your trip is probably more important anyway. Best of all, the app is completely free.
“We built the TripIt for iPhone app using our TripIt API to make sure developers could easily build the same type of apps on their own,” Andy Denmark, co-founder and VP Development, TripIt, said. “In doing so, we further improved the API for our developer community.”
A number of people have used the service to centralize their travel plans, and give them one place to look when they're planning a trip instead of having to refer to multiple e-mails and travel sites when looking up information about their trip. Now, TripIt wants to make the process even easier by giving you a way to check your booking information on the go. The TripIt iPhone app was unveiled this week and is currently available on the Apple App Store for free; you just need an iPhone or iPod Touch with the 2.2 software update applied.
