The reason 1080p is important is that is part of the High-Definition video standards landscape. For example, most HDTVs now, especially those that are , have a 1080p native display (or pixel) resolution.
While I can play 1080 content this model does not have a 1080 line display so I bet a new user could be confused about 1080 playback verses the display resolution. Again, the native resolution is best at 1366x768.
's rather quietly refreshed its VAIO Z laptops in the US -- to include Intel's Core i7 processor and a new, optional 1920 x 1080 display. In addition, the industry regulators such as the US Federal Trade Commission and the EU Competition Commission might want to look into whether or not the big LCD vendors have been colluding to charge higher prices for computer monitors that don't match the dominant HD 1080p TV display screen format. If they find antitrust violations by the big vendors, it won't be the first time. Several vendors pleaded guilty to price fixing of LCD display panels years ago.
